The architecture of private life in the first suburbs

From the train station, and after crossing the rail tracks towards the west side of the city, the walking tour directs you to the Villa Majorelle, the first and without a doubt the most famous Art Nouveau house in Nancy. At the Villa, you can discover how the city of Nancy progressively took hold of plots of land and old towns in order to meet the demands of a growing population.

It’s within the first wave of peripheral urbanization, which corresponds with the emerging Ecole de Nancy architecture, that the most essential typological and constructive innovations are concentrated. Façades and designs relay the spirit of Nancy’s decorative arts in an urban landscape.
